planet ashtanga yoga

My name is Bill Brundell and I teach the ashtanga vinyasa method according to my teacher (guru), Sri K Pattabhi Jois . I live in Stockholm, Sweden with my partner, Lisa Laler and her two sons, Alexander and Jonathan. With so much being written about ashtanga yoga these days I will keep the description to a minimum and encourage you to explore the links in red.

With love and respect to my guru, Sri K Pattabhi Jois and his grandson, R Sharath I devote this humble website. Most of what is written here about the practice comes directly from them through me, as I have understood it. In recent years Guruji’s daughter Saraswati has become a strong presence in the Mysore Shala. Her calm feminine energy combines with Sharath’s dynamic energy to continue the legacy since Guruji’s passing away on May 18 2009.
Guruji may have left his body but he remains strongly implanted in the hearts of thousands of yoga practitioners around the world. I constantly quote him in my teaching as if he were still alive, so strong is his presence. . .

The name of this site is a reflection of Guruji’s wish that if everybody on the planet practices yoga regularly, the survival of the human race will be assured!

There is a common misconception that the practice is reserved for a certain body type or personality type and the practice becomes “performance” orientated. Guruji insists that the practice is “internal exercise” and that anybody who can breath can practice. “Ashtanga yoga is for everyone, all can take benefit from this practice. . .” The practice must be adapted to the individual and not the other way around.

I welcome the reader to browse the site. Please forgive any mistakes and misunderstandings from my part. I will update on a regular basis and I always welcome constructive feedback.

All the photos on this site are my own creations, apart from a few of myself that Lisa took. Enjoy!

I bow to the lotus feet of the Gurus

The awakening happiness of one’s own Self revealed,

Beyond better, acting like the jungle physician,

Pacifying delusion, the poison of Samsara.

Taking the form of a man to the shoulders,

Holding a conch, a discus, and a sword,

One thousand heads white,

To Patanjali, I salute.
